Pieter Van Hoof from De Bossen in Lier cultivates various vegetable crops, with a focus on pole beans. To check if the beans still have enough water, De Bossen uses Reporter.

Soil moisture sensors for optimal harvest

"I can't constantly be digging my hands into the soil to feel if it's still moist in the greenhouse. Besides, that's just a snapshot of the soil condition. I grow vegetables at five locations and need to be constantly updated on the water availability for my crops. For this, I use Reporter's alarm function. This way, I receive an alarm notification when the soil in the root zone of the plants is too dry and my crops need extra irrigation. For example, during hot days, extra water is needed to prevent my harvest from losing quality, or worse, from dying," says Van Hoof.

Van Hoof measures soil moisture with the SMT100, a handy sensor to measure the percentage of water in the soil.

Live and historical data in the Cloud

At De Bossen, live data and Reporter's alarm function are primarily used to support crops at the right time. Van Hoof mentions regularly looking back up to three days ago on the Crodeon Dashboard to have a better understanding of whether extra water needs to be provided.
