Cemminerals is a cement production company in the port of Ghent. Water from the adjacent canal is used as cooling water during the cement production.

When canal water is used in coolers, strict rules are imposed whereby both the incoming canal water and the discharged water must be monitored in temperature. The temperature of the incoming canal water must be measured in the canal itself. Cemminerals uses Reporter to do so. Reporter is a plug-and-play sensor module that automatically takes measurements and logs this data in the cloud.

Water temperature

Reporter is used to monitor canal water temperature. This is necessary as there are regulations regarding the discharge of cooling water into surface water such as rivers.

There is neither electricity supply, wifi, nor the possibility for a data cable at the location where Cemminerals measures. Therefore, an autonomous system was chosen that runs on solar energy and sends its live data via the mobile data network. A perfect job for Reporter.

Here, the temperature sensor continuously measures the temperature of the canal water and logs this data in the cloud. This way, the right data is always available for reporting and analysis and allows Cemminerals to prove that they have never violated these rules.

No stranger to concrete

Reporter is no stranger to cement and concrete. The system also works perfectly for tracking concrete curing times or monitoring moisture in concrete structures. You can read more about this in the following blogs:
